Edward M. (Mickey) Rooney, Sr., 82, of Raytown, MO, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ruth Rooney (Gale) and his sisters, Rosie Ogan and Dorothy Toler, sons-in-law, Bob Miner and Jeff Cunningham. Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Virginia Dee Rooney; sister, Frances Bernardel; brother, Frank Rooney (Joyce) and children, Mike (Diane) Rooney, Pat Miner, Sandy Cunningham, Mitch Rooney and Marty Rooney. Mickey's legacy includes 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. After graduating from Lillis high School, Mickey served his country and joined the Merchant Marines at age 16 and then served in the Coast Guard and the Army until 1951. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for 55 years. A lifetime resident of the Kansas City area, Mickey began his career in appliance sales soon after leaving the army. He started with Westinghouse Appliance, where he won several awards and sales contests including the Million Dollar Sales Club; then G.W. Ryan Distributing and until November of 2009 he was a valued and beloved associate of Manley's Appliance in Belton. Mickey was a compassionate man who always stood up for his beliefs. He loved his wife Dee dearly and was a loving father, grandfather and great- grandfather, helping his family whenever he was needed. He enjoyed bowling and good parties; especially family reunions. He touched the lives of all he associated with and he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 10, at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel from 6-8 p.m. with prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Funeral services at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
