Doris married Olen Kenneth Tidwell on June 2, 1967 and they had two daughters, Sharmin and Bobbie. (They were divorced in 1975)
A single mother, Doris did everything in her power to make sure her girls were taken care of. She worked for many years for Tesoro Petroleum in San Antonio, Texas where she was proud of her career. When Tesoro was sold, Doris made a living in various secretarial positions.
In 2003 Doris made the decision to move to Missouri where she could be closer to her children and grandchildren. She worked for Hy-Vee Grocers for many years in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Upon being diagnosed with Lung Cancer, Doris retired.
Doris attended as many functions of her grandchildren’s activities as she possibly could, and lived for her family. She loved watching her Kansas City Chiefs every Sunday, and looked forward to sharing her excitement with all of her family. (Even her family in Texas that were not truly Chiefs fans!)
Doris lived in a retirement community in Lee’s Summit for 12 years where she had many friends and looked forward to community gatherings, when she was healthy enough to attend.
Doris was a lung and breast cancer survivor, and suffered from COPD for many years. She never let her illness keep her down, and she fought an extremely courageous fight all the while.
Doris is survived by her daughters: Sharmin Oehring of Independence and Bobbie Todd (Doug) of Centerview. Four grandchildren: Ciara Wagner (Dylan) of Lawrenceburg, IN; Claire Oehring (Matt Pierce) of Lee’s Summit, MO; Lonnie Alverson (Brock) of Centralia, KS; Hunter Todd (Kensie Darst) of Nixa, MO and two great grandsons: Casey Lane Todd of Nixa, MO and Aiden Douglas Alverson of Centralia, KS. A sister, Shirley Knox (Deryl) of Missouri City, TX and many close cousins, nieces and nephews that she was always tickled to be in touch with. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers.
Doris was fun loving, hard working, and loved her family more than life itself. She was always eager to make plans and looked forward to any visits, family gatherings and holidays. Her family was everything to her, and she will be sorely missed by many, but will live on in our hearts forever!
