Donna Rose Fick Lutz, 90 of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 12 at Brookdale Skilled Nursing from complications resulting from a stroke. Donna was born on Sept. 29, 1931 to Hubert and Katherine (Kramaric) Fick in the living room of her childhood home at 4002 Adams in Kansas City, KS. It’s here that she formed her most vivid memories and long-lasting friendships. Donna enjoyed playing with her sister, Mary Kay, and her brother, “Buddy”. Donna loved to revisit her homestead through her adult years. Donna attended Guardian Angels Elementary and then Lillis High School. Donna and Tom’s early dates often involved dancing and watching movies. Donna married Tom Lutz on June 17, 1950 at Holy Name Church on Southwest Blvd.
Donna was the queen of bargain shopping, yet was always the most stylish person in the room. She enjoyed watching squirrels, hummingbirds, old movies, and murder mysteries. She traveled the world, she dipped her toes in many oceans. Tom and Donna spent countless summers at Lake of the Ozarks with too many friends to list. One of her favorite pastimes was watching the sunset from her chair on the deck. Donna recently celebrated her 90th birthday and was overwhelmed by the turnout. She was at her best when surrounded by friends and family! Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; son, Kenny; brother, Hubert “Buddy”. She is survived by her children, Karen (Larry) Baumann, Kevin (Amy) Lutz, Kathy (Terry) Edwards; sister, Mary Kay (Pat) Francke; 8 grandchildren, Todd (Summer) Johnson, Emily (Brian) Kohlberg, Adam (Sarah) Baumann, Heather (Shawn) Theby, Blake Edwards, Ryan Edwards, Sam Lutz and Alex Lutz; and 7 ¾ great-grandchildren, Tyson, Aubrianna, Blake, William, Eleanor, Otto and Edison.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 at St. Pius X Church, 5500 Woodson Rd, Mission, KS, immediately followed by a grand celebration at the church. Visitation will be from 9:15am to 9:40am when the Rosary will be prayed. The family requests that you honor Donna by wearing something in Donna’s favorite color, turquoise, or something blue since she loved the KC Royals. In lieu of flowers please plant a rose bush or an azalea in her honor or make a donation to Sister Servants of Mary (sisterservantsofmary.org). Donna Rose wasn’t your typical mom. She was and always will be the best mom. Miss you Mom.
A special thanks to the staff at Brookdale and Brookdale Hospice.
