Donna’s character and personality were defined by her caring heart, giving nature, playful spirit, and quick wit. You could always count on Donna for the perfect pun. Family and friends were the core of Donna’s life. She delighted in gathering with the people she loved to share meals and life celebrations. She enjoyed attending family events including Fantasy Football weekend, Halloween and Easter parties, and themed Christmas celebrations. She was especially proud of her many nieces and nephews and rarely missed their major events and activities.
Donna shared her creativity and talent throughout her life. In her later years, Donna was intent in getting in touch with her “cowgirl” self. She formed a band, The Cowgirls, with whom she wrote, performed, and recorded country western music. She also wrote a personalized song for many of her nieces and nephews. Donna shared her creativity through her writing. She attended her life story writing group where she shared stories of her travels, funny mishaps, and love for her family. She also shared her many talents with other writers, helping them with writing, organizing, and publishing their stories.
Before retiring, Donna served as Director of Public Relations for the Shawnee Mission and North Kansas City School Districts. In previous years, Donna held a wide variety of jobs utilizing her many skills and gifts. Her all-time favorite job was during her college years when she was the lead singer of the Mourning Dispatch rock band in the Greely, CO.
Donna was the best friend any person could have and will be greatly missed by all who ever knew her. Her thoughtfulness, generosity, love, and wisdom were unparalleled. The ripples of her caring spirit will continue to touch others for many years to come. All who knew her were changed by her love in their life.
Donna was preceded in death by her father, Ludwig Holman. Survivors include her loving companion of 21 years, Vickie; mother, Therese Holman of Fairway, KS; siblings, Donald Holman (Nancy) of Indianapolis, IN, Irene Doll (John) of Shawnee, KS, Joe Holman (Alicia) of Sedona, AZ, Lu Bever (Neal) of Prairie Village, KS, Audrey Holman (Lisa) of Arlington, TX, Howard Holman (Jill) of Paron, AR. Donna is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, her Hollingsworth family, and her extended family of loving friends.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm followed by memorial service at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.
