Carol L. Walker passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016. Services will be held Friday, May 13, at 11:00 a.m. in the Wesley Chapel, Church of the Resurrection, Leawood, KS. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Overland Park, KS.
Carol was born December 13, 1931, in Springfield, MO to Clarence and Bertha Mitchell. She moved with her parents to Columbia. She graduated from Christian College and earned BS and MA degrees in Journalism from the University of Missouri. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta and Theta Sigma Phi Honorary Fraternity for Women in Journalism. She married Dick Walker in 1956 while in graduate school and in 1959, they became permanent Overland Park residents. Carol worked in broadcasting and advertising prior to becoming a full-time mother in 1962.
Carol loved traveling, first to Colorado, then weekly trips to Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends. When the nest was empty, she and Dick visited all 50 states and Canada.
Carol was blessed with a gentle, loving nature. And through to the end, she had a smile and a touch for all who reached out to her.
Carol is survived by Dick, her husband of 60 years; children Judy, Linda and Mark (Stacy); grandchildren Shelby, Morgan and Grant Dorris; Vitaly, Konnor and Gregori Pepin; Ryan and Taylor Walker. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or Catholic Community Hospice.
