Carol Chilcote Duncan, 94, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Visitation will be at the Country Club Christian Church from 5 to 6 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023 with funeral services following at 6:00 p.m.. Burial will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Saint Joseph, Missouri, on Tuesday, November 21 at 1:00 p.m.
Carol was born on March 29, 1929 in Saint Joseph, Missouri to Merrill and Thelma Chilcote. Carol attended Central High School in Saint Joseph, Missouri where she met her husband, John Thomas Duncan. Carol and John married on May 15, 1948 at the First Christian Church in Saint Joseph, Missouri. They both taught in the Saint Joseph Schools before moving to Kansas City. Carol was a graduate of Missouri Western State University, Northwest Missouri State University, and received her master’s degree from Central Missouri State University. She worked for the Kansas City Missouri School District for almost 40 years, retiring in 1990. Carol was a member of Country Club Christian Church. She was an original member, and co-founder, of the Ethnic Enrichment Commission and Festival. She was also a member of the Kansas City Saint Andrew Society.
Carol is survived by her brother, Gary Chilcote, of Saint Joseph, Missouri; son, Jan Duncan and wife, Johnna Boswell-Duncan, of Roeland Park, Kansas; daughter, Annette Corona and husband, Michael, of Shawnee, Kansas; two chosen daughters, Martha Cortes and Graciela Fresan, both of Mexico City, Mexico; seven grandchildren, Michele Valdivia, James Duncan, Thomas Duncan, Jay Isaac Duncan, Meghaan Fountain, Zachery Boswell and Justin Fountain; and seven great-grandchildren.
Donations in Carol’s honor can be made to the Country Club Christian Church, the Ethnic Enrichment Commission and Festival, or the Kansas City St. Andrew Pipe Band.
