Cade was born September 17, 1996, to parents Don and Lisa Blackburn of Leawood, KS. Cade graduated with high and multiple honors from Blue Valley High School in 2015. He was a multi-year Kansas 6A swimming state medalist for Blue Valley High as well as an accomplished competitive swimmer for the Tsunami Swim Club of Kansas City.
As a high-achieving student, Cade was awarded merit-based scholarships to attend Baylor University where he majored in Biology/Pre-med. After completing his first year of undergrad, he decided that his passion was to serve as a first responder. Cade returned home to earn his AAS degree in Emergency Medical Science, in 2019, from Johnson County Community College.
Cade began his career as a Paramedic for Miami County (KS). He quickly made an impact as he was awarded the Miami County EMS ‘Great Save Award’ for resuscitation efforts, within his first month of service. Cade was also employed as an EMS Lab Instructor by Johnson County Community College. At the time of his death, he was serving as a Paramedic for Dr. Vince, Clinical Research, in Overland Park, KS. Cade was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS.
Cade was highly intelligent, spoke fluent Spanish, and most importantly, he had a heart of gold and a smile that was a mile wide. He loved and lived to help others. Cade inherited his gift of gab from his father, Don, therefore, he never met a stranger.
Cade loved the outdoors, venturing out for daily walks in various parts of the surrounding counties with his dog, Bentley, as well as fishing, boating, swimming at the lake, and beach vacations. Cade loved God, family, Bentley, and serving others – in that order. He was immensely loved and will be missed by all – until we all meet again.
Cade was a proud big brother and a wonderful son, grandson, nephew, cousin, co-worker, and friend.
Cade was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert Blackburn, Sr., and Lorraine Taylor; uncle, Robert Blackburn, Jr.; and cousin, Jeremy Blackburn.
Cade is survived by his parents, Don and Lisa Blackburn (Leawood, KS); sister, Abby Blackburn (Corpus Christi, TX); maternal grandparents, Max and Cheryl Mohler (Louisburg, KS); uncle, Troy Mohler (Lincoln, NE); paternal uncle, Dave Blackburn (Louisburg, KS); aunt, Deb (Bill) Hills (Spring Hill, KS); aunt, Pat Blackburn (Fountain Hills, AZ); cousins in KS and AL; and his favorite “person”, his dog, Bentley.
