Betty Jane Heitmann, born May 9, 1917 in Kansas City, Mo. and passed away December 26, 2016. As devoted wife of the late Dr. Donald K. Piper, mother of four children, eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Betty loved and was greatly adored by her family. She put heart and enthusiasm into a variety of endeavors. As a youth, she hunted and fished with her father in Missouri lakes and meadows, the Texas gulf and Canadian streams. After graduating in 1943 from the University of Kansas with a BA degree in Home Economics, she worked as Assistant Director for the Dairy Council of Greater Kansas City. She actively participated or played leadership roles in women's organizations, including Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Kansas City Young Matrons, Leawood Woman's Club, Medical Alliance of Metropolitan Medical Society. She was President of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and Pinkerton Parent Teacher association.
She entertained, swam, golfed, bowled, loved travel and could sing lively renditions of many musicals, particularly Oklahoma, and favorite Cole Porter numbers. Most importantly, she instilled meaning and value in her relationships with family, friends and many others, along the way.
She is survived by children Donna Dayger of New York, Betty (Mark) Chernansky of Chicago, Don Piper of North Carolina, and Shelly Kincaid of Switzerland.
A visitation will be from 10-11AM, Tuesday January 3rd followed by funeral service at Mount Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral home, 10507 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, Mo.
