Betty Jo was born on August 5, 1933 in Weston, Missouri. She was the daughter of Leonard L. and Mayme A. (Maycock) Dillon. Betty Jo graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City Junior College. She married John E. Miller on December 27, 1953 at the Presbyterian Church Kansas City, Missouri.
Betty Jo was a secretary at R.A. Long Lumber Company, later she taught and was an elementary school teacher at two Kansas City, Kansas Schools, following teaching she spent many years as a homemaker. She went back to work as the financial manager for the family business, John E. Miller Independent Insurance Agency. Following the sale of the family business she worked at Black and Veach in the purchasing department until her retirement.
Betty Jo was a supporter of her husband's career as a music director and sang in his many choirs. She was also active in Church where she taught Sunday School and was the Circle Chairman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, John Scott Miller, brother, Robert L. Dillon and sister, Mary Jean Burton. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John E. Miller, son, Jeffrey A. Miller (Gina Dunn), daughter, Pamela J. Miller (Doug Hubler), daughter-in-law, Carol Miller, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and large extended family.
