Barbara was born on August 28, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, to John and Mildred (Reeder) Carroll. She graduated from St. Mary High School in 1975 and Avila College in 1979. Barbara taught world history and geography, and she served as the student council advisor at St. Mary High School from 1978-1982.
On November 27, 1981, she married William (Bill) Anthony Hart, Jr., at St. Mary Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri, and they had two daughters. Together with her husband Bill, she owned and operated two small businesses on the Historic Independence Square- The Keeping Room Antiques and Gateway Letter Jackets. Time at the shops filled many of Barbara’s days, as she enjoyed serving her customers. She also loved auctions, garage sales, and buying trips to find the perfect treasures for the shop.
As an active member of St. Mary Parish, the Catholic faith and Catholic education played an integral role in Barbara’s life. Over the last few years, Barbara was also enjoying gardening and working alongside Bill to fix up their early 1900s house, using her outstanding decorating skills to make Hart’s Delight a beautiful home.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 40 years, Bill, and two daughters, Anne Louise and Therese (Tess) Josephine. She is also survived by her sister Joan Carroll-Barnosky, nine nieces and nephews, numerous family and friends, and many loyal customers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 25, at 10:30am, at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Independence, Missouri.
