Barbara Anne Hahner Byrne, 70, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2015, in Kansas City, Missouri with her family by her side. She lived a rich life, filled with fond memories built with her loving family and lifelong friends. She will be greatly missed.
Barbara is remembered with love by her children, Andrea (Robert) Boepple of Overland Park, KS , Matthew (Jamie) Byrne of Gardner, KS, Victoria (John) Shaffer, of Corpus Christi, TX, and Jack Byrne of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Ryan Boepple, Julia Boepple, Daniel Shaffer, and Kayla Byrne; siblings Joan (Robert) Greene, of Shawnee, KS, John (Sharon) Hahner, of Shawnee, KS, Mary Hahner-Price of Shawnee, KS, David (Cathi) Hahner, of Basehor, KS, Deborah (Donald) Michalski, of Kansas City, KS, and Elizabeth (Terry) Kensinger of Sacramento, CA. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Daniel Byrne, her parents, John and Mona Hahner, of Shawnee, KS, and her brother James Hahner, of Shawnee, KS.
Barbara was born on December 5, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri to John and Mona (Shocklee) Hahner. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1962 and attended Mount Saint Scholatica College. Following college, Barbara taught second grade at St. Elizabeth School in Kansas City, MO. She married her best friend and the love of her life, Dan, in 1966. The couple were active and devoted parents to their four children, who remember Barbara as a warm and vibrant mother who served as an excellent role model for a life well lived. Barbara enjoyed being surrounded by family, particularly her four grandchildren, who gave her great joy.
Barbara, always stylishly dressed, began her own company, Byrne Enterprise, representing clothing and accessory lines to buyers at department stores. Barbara was a savvy and successful businesswoman. She was generous with her time and loved her community, passionately volunteering, particularly in her parish, St. Thomas More in Kansas City, Missouri. A devoted Catholic, she was active in the children’s ministry, RCIA program, and Ladies of Charity. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 11th, at McGilley State Line Chapel, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 12th, 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 11822 Holmes, Kansas City, MO, with a reception to follow in More Hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Barbra’s life. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, 1500 Meadow Lake Parkway, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64114.
