Antonia “Granny” Lopez, 99, of Independence, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 2, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Independence, MO and NorthCare Hospice.
Antonia was born on October 1, 1912 in Uvalde, TX to Guillermo Sanchez and Lorenza Medina. She was employed at the Kansas City Club for 30 years and the University club for 10 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Angelo; daughter, Angelina Lopez Valandingham; son, Angelo Lopez, Jr.; and her beloved grandchildren, Chris Lopez, Sal Mendez, Jr., and Vincent Mendez. Antonia is survived by daughters, Henrietta Valdivia and Irene Lopez of Independence, MO, Catherine Mendez of Kansas City, MO, Patricia Rodriguez of Las Vegas, NV; sons, Joseph (Diane) Lopez of Overland Park, KS and Luke (Terri) Lopez of Independence, MO; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of NorthCare Hospice. Antonia has touched the lives of all her family and friends. She will always be remembered and live in the hearts of all those she encountered.
