Abby A. Ricketts, 91, Lee’s Summit, went to be with Jesus 21 November 2014. Abby was born in Dunkin, Quebec, Canada 17 October 1923 to Henry and Letitia Achilles. The family moved to Vermont when Abby was an infant. She grew up and attended schools in Hartland and Windsor, Vt. For several years she was an operator at New England Tel and Tel.
In January 1951, she married Donald Ricketts and for 63 years, they moved around the country from Florida, Ohio, So. Calif., Northern Calif., back to So. Calif., Kansas and Missouri as Don’s military and job assignments required. Each move was a new adventure.
Abby was an active, loving mother of five children - Jeannie, James, Jeffrey (spouse Elaine), Dennis (spouse Laura) and David (spouse Lisa), twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by siblings Louis, Kathryn, twin sister, Addie, and Henry, Jr.
She enjoyed traveling, visiting family around the country, cruises and tours in Europe.
Abby was a member of First Baptist Church in Independence. Prior to her illness, she was active in various ministries. She sent many greeting cards to people who were ill or celebrating events. Each card usually contained numerous gold confetti angels. Some of those angels have been returned in cards she has received recently.
You are one of God’s special angels, Abby, and we will miss you very much.
A service celebrating Abby’s life will be Tuesday, December 2, at First Baptist Church, 500 W. Truman Road, Independence, Missouri. Visitation at 10:00 am followed by the service at 11:00 am. Entombment will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
