William E. Porter, 84, passed away January 21, 2014. A visitation will be held Friday, January 24th from 6:00-8:00 PM and funeral service Saturday, January 25th at 1:00 PM at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Interment will follow the funeral service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
William was born in New Madrid, MO to William L. and Alma Porter. He grew up in Eminence, MO and later moved to KCK. William served in the United States Army where he was stationed in LaRochelle, France and was part of the military police. During his military service, he married Angela Lueske and was married to her for 62 years. When he moved to KCK, he worked at Stunz Lumber Co., Alvine’s Dairy and then National Life Insurance Company. He retired at the age of 55 from National Life Insurance Company after 30 years of service. During his 30 years there, he was awarded numerous sales awards. In his free time, William enjoyed gardening, traveling with his wife, and fixing things.
William is preceded in death by his parents, William and Alma Porter; step-dad, Alfred Ball; and sister, Frances Watts. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Angela Porter; sons, Donald (Barbara) Porter and Phillip (Denise) Porter; daughters, Patricia (Prit) Porter-Gill and Rose (James) Smith; half-brother, Bruce Ball; half-sisters, Margaret Ellen Hackathorn and Betty Gearheart; grandchildren, Christopher Michael Smith, Calie M. Smith, Sikandar Porter-Gill, Morgan Arms, Adrienne Arms, Kyle Arms, Kevin Porter, and Christopher Porter; great-grandchild, Charles Dean Arms and many nieces and nephews.
