Tim was born on September 18, 1940, in Kansas City, Kansas, the oldest child of Cecil Homer Maskil and Mary Ellen Turney. He had three sisters Mary Ellen Forrest, Patricia Berry and Beth Graves.
Tim attended high school at Wyandotte High school, where he graduated in 1958. After graduating, he enlisted in the Navy where he was in active service for three years, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge as a sonar man. He was honorably discharged in September of 1961.
After completing service in the U. S. Navy, Tim returned to Kansas City, Kansas where he worked several jobs before eventually joining the Kansas City Kansas Police Department in 1966. He retired from the Department as a Homicide Detective in January 1995 after 28 years of service. Throughout that time, Tim often worked multiple side jobs (mostly security or even home building) to make sure that his family always had the things they needed. Tim also earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Missouri State University in 1977.
In 1966, Tim married Karen Ann Perkins. Three years later in 1969, they had their first son, Terrance Patrick Maskil, and then in 1973, their second son, Daniel Carter Maskil. After 12 years of marriage, Tim and Karen separated and then divorced. In 1979, Tim married Rosalyn June Ruff, who already had one daughter, Kathleen. They remained married until February 2008 when Rosalyn passed away.
Tim was an avid reader (lots of history, mysteries and detective stories), a gun enthusiast, a genealogist, a Kansas City Chiefs football fan, a Kansas State University football fan and a woodworker. He made different pieces of furniture, display cases and various other woodworking pieces for different family members and friends. Tim was also very much a dog lover, having two black labs (Sam and Molly) and two yellow labs (Maggie and Maggie) over the years. He truly loved his dogs and spent endless hours walking the streets of the neighborhood with them, so much so that neighbors miles away knew the dogs by name.
In addition to Terrance, Daniel and Kathleen, Tim is survived by his three sisters Mary Ellen, Patricia and Beth, as well as his seven grandchildren, Aaron Maskil, Adam Maskil, Kaylin Ernst, Evan Ernst, Noah Ernst, Nicholas Maskil and Abigail Maskil. Aaron Maskil followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and is currently an active member of the U.S. Navy..
