Robert Eugene Bernard

Robert E. Bernard, 64, of Tonganoxie, passed away November 1, 2017 after a sudden illness. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:30pm, Monday, November 6th, with funeral services at 2:30pm at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. He will be laid to rest in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Robert was born September 21, 1953 in Kansas City, Kansas and grew up in KCK with his parents, William and June Bernard. He graduated from Washington High School and worked for many years as a Local 101 Union heavy equipment operator. Robert retired in 2013. He married the love of his life, Julie Forbes on July 19, 1975 and they raised two children together. Robert regularly attended the Cornerstone Family Worship Center in Tonganoxie. He spent much of his leisure time outdoors, either fishing, skiing, or boating. When he could, he watched the Royals, Chiefs and Nascar. Robert was very proud of his home and spent a lot of his time making improvements. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially playing cards. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Ronald Bernard.

Robert is survived by his wife, Julie Bernard; his children, Amy Bernard, and Ryan Bernard; his sister, Sandy Atkinson and her husband Terry; as well as other relatives and friends.
