Michael Lee Rohlfing, age 70, passed away with his family beside him at Research Medical Center On Sunday Oct. 13th, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to his family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Albert (Big Al) and Frances Rohlfing both of Kansas City, KS and his sister Deborah Rohlfing of Reno, NV. He is survived by his wife Laura (Baker) Rohlfing, his sister Roberta Rohlfing of Lakewood, CO, two sons David Rader of Kansas City, KS and Justin (Denae) Rohlfing of Parkville, MO. Six grandchildren: Barrett and Emily Rader, Keelee and Kendal Stroble, and Kyle and Kalli Rohlfing. Mike is also survived by two great grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was born in San Diego, CA on Feb. 12th 1954 while his father was stationed in the Navy. He grew up in Kansas City, KS and attended Washington High School, and William Jewell College. Mike was a lover of sports. Playing basketball, baseball and continued football at William Jewell as a lineman.
He married his lifelong love, Laura of 46 years June 10th, 1978. A devoted husband, and an amazing father, Mike's life was defined by his deep commitment to his loved ones. Together Mike and Laura spent their best years raising their children, taking trips together, bowling, and spending time with family.
Mike worked for Kansas City Southern Railroad in Kansas City, MO for 43 years as a conductor/switchman. He was a die hard fan of the Chiefs and the Royals. Mike's father Albert founded Lyndotte baseball and Mike followed in his father's footsteps coaching youth baseball from t-ball through 16U at Wyco and in tournaments abroad. We will never stop mourning this great loss and Mike will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by anyone who had the privilege to know him.
A private celebration of life will be held to honor Mike's memory. We appreciate your support and condolences during this difficult time.
