KYOKO WASHINGTON, 82, of Kansas City (Basehor), Kansas, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2017 at KU Medical Center. She was born in Chiba Prefecture, Japan to Konosuke and Yoshi Baba, along with seven other siblings in a rural seaside village along the Tokyo Bay. She fell in love and married an American Service member and unselfishly moved throughout the USA and Japan in support of raising a military family. She was preceded in death by her husband Staff Sergeant Monte W. Washington Sr. (USAF, Ret) after 42 years of marriage. Besides being a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was a devoted homemaker and a culinary professional at a prominent Japanese restaurant. She was extremely passionate about sharing her love for cooking and baking amongst family, friends, and colleagues. A remarkably strong woman who always gave her unconditional love, support and smile to others, often before satisfying her very own needs or interests. Kyoko is survived by her brother Katsuhiro Baba; sisters, Hisako Baba and Fumiko Tanaka of Japan; her sons, Petty Officer First Class Monte W. Washington Jr. (USN, Ret) of Basehor, KS, Commander Mike C. Washington (USN, Ret) and his wife Wanda of San Diego, CA and Mark K. Washington and his wife Jamie of Lee's Summit, MO and step-daughter, Deborah L. Stevenson of Arlington, TX; grandchildren, Monica L. Washington of Shawnee, KS, Petty Officer Second Class Mark E. Washington and his wife Saeko of Lemoore, CA, Jessica M. Roberts and her husband Drew of Basehor, KS, Braydon M. Washington of Lakeville, MN and Constance Stevenson of Omaha, NE; and great grandchildren, Andrew J. Roberts Jr, of Basehor, KS, Marcus and Aarica Stevenson of Omaha, NE. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM with a memorial service at 11 AM, Monday, November 20, 2017 at Chapel Hill – Butler, 701 N. 94th St, Kansas City, Kansas. Burial: 2:30 pm at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.
