John Edward Lawrence “Jack”, 73, passed away on February 9, 2021. Jack was a long-time resident of Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Rockhurst University with a bachelor’s in liberal arts and retired from AIG. Jack was a retired Captain from the Kansas Army National Guard.
Jack was a role model and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and sibling. He was a great father to his four children and a great figure to the extended family of nieces and nephews who lovingly called him “Apple Jack”. Jack had made an enduring mark on their lives. He loved history- Gettysburg, Sports- Notre Dame, and traveling. He and his wife Mary had visited all eight continents – he said, “it got pretty wet visiting Atlantis”. Jack absorbed and inhaled knowledge and was a natural born storyteller. He was known for his wit and always had something to say. He never met a stranger.
Jack is preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Heflin; parents, John and Mary; and great grandson Rex Funez.
He is survived by his (soulmate) wife, Mary Lawrence; children, Anna M. (Christopher) Burge, Tina Louise (Roderick) Gonzales, and John E. Lawrence III; grandchildren, Johnny D., Kyle, John IV, Kimberly, Andrew, Amber, Allasandra, Arrianna, Anastasia; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Roepke; brothers, James, Robert, and Dennis; along with many other family members and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, February 26, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Interment will be Friday at 1:15 PM at Mt.
