Harold E. Miller

Harold E. Miller, 89, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Tonganoxie Nursing Center. Graveside Services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 6 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Harold was born June 11, 1922 in Piper, Kansas to Samuel and Mary (Mahaney) Miller. He graduated from Basehor High School and married his high school sweetheart Jessie on April 18, 1942. Harold was drafted into the Army in 1942 and advanced to the rank of Sergeant. He served in a Signal Corp as the head of his division and in his service, he went to New Guinea, the Philippines, and he was on a ship headed to Japan just after they dropped the bomb. Harold was in Japan for nearly six months and came home with malaria. He worked for the Railroad Express, farmed, built his own home in Piper, had a dairy, and then worked in soil conservation and construction. Harold started H.E. Miller & Sons Construction in 1954; he incorporated with his sons in 1983 and retired in 2005. He enjoyed gardening and watching football and basketball. He was a hard worker but he always enjoyed going to live Country Western music shows on Saturday nights. Harold was an honest, loving man and he loved the Lord with all his heart.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Mary Miller. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jessie Miller, his children, Larry Miller and wife Jeannie, Arthur Miller, Linda McCall and husband Stan, brother Howard Miller, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
