George Edward “Ed” Bennett, Jr., of Bonner Springs, KS, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 9th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Kansas City, KS. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, Kansas City, KS, where the rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. The family requests that any contributions be made to Kansas Special Olympics. Ed was born May 26, 1934 in Kansas City, KS to George Edward Bennett, Sr. and Helen Patricia (Donahy) Bennett. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a lifelong resident of Wyandotte County, serving as Owner and President of Bennett Trucking Company Incorporated for 25 years, before retiring in 2000. He loved hunting all sorts of game, including birds and deer, and he recently restored his family homestead in Blaine, KS, where he liked staying. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Helen Porting; and a son, Paul D. Bennett. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sharon R. Bennett of the home; 7 children, Skip Bennett of Lawrence, KS, Cindy McIntyre of Kansas City, KS, Bob Bennett of Kansas City, MO, Julie Moeller of Oskaloosa, KS, Steve Bennett of Redmond, WA, Greg Bennett of Bonner Springs, KS, Katie Vohs of Linwood, KS; 2 sisters, Anne Marie “Molly” Ryan of Shawnee, KS, and Mary Jane Burger of Springfield, MO; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
