Dr. Gary Russell Stallings, 78, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024. Born on April 22, 1946, Salina, KS to Gordon K Stallings and Elizabeth June Stallings, Gary's early life was shaped by his father’s military career, which took the family around the world, including the Philippines and the Azores. From a young age, Gary developed a deep love for animals, a passion that would guide his life and career.
Dr. Stallings graduated from Kansas State University Veterinary School in 1973 and went on to make a profound impact on his community as the founder and Senior Veterinarian of Bethel Animal Hospital, a position he held from 1975 until his retirement in 2004. His dedication to the care and well-being of animals was unmatched, and his compassionate approach left a lasting mark on countless pets and their owners.
Gary was not just a dedicated professional; he was a man with a vibrant personality, well-known for his sharp wit and sense of humor that brought joy to his family, friends, colleagues, and clients alike. Outside of his professional life, he had many hobbies, including golfing and collecting veterinary memorabilia—two pursuits that reflected both his playful nature and his professional passion.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce, whose love and support enriched his life; his four children, Shauna Stallings, Shannon Wiseman (Jason), Melissa Stallings Bryant, and Shane Stallings; his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sister, Sandra S. Jones. His legacy of compassion, laughter, and service will live on through the memories of those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held on January 3, 2025 at 10:00 AM, Chappel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to local animal shelters or veterinary programs to honor his lifelong commitment to the care of animals.
Dr. Gary Russell Stallings was more than a devoted veterinarian—he was a kind, loving father, husband, and friend whose memory will live on in the hearts of many.
