Fred A. Van Alden, 95, passed away on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2016. Viewing will be at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS 66112 on Mon., Feb. 29, 2016, 10 AM to noon, Chapel service at noon; followed by entombment at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, 1150 N. 38 St., Kansas City, KS 66102 about 1 PM, Corridor C, Tier A.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Patricia Lambrecht of Phoenix, AZ; his beloved companion, Phyllis Corthon, her grandchildren, her son, Jim Corthon, his 2 daughters and her brother, Richard Atteberry (Betty); Fred’s brother, Ted and his 4 daughters, Catherine Van Alden, Barbara Fraker (children, Everett, Tammy, and Tammy’s children), Michelle Van Alden and Jill Mitchell (Michael); Fred’s sister-in-law, Agnes Langan of Florida (children: Rebecca Gailliott, Patrick Langan (Carol), Cynthia Rivenbark (Maurice & children), Timothy Langan (Sirlac & children) and Michael Langan (Barbara and children); other nieces/nephews: Carolyn Werneke (Ed, children, grandchildren), Robert Long (children, Keesha Wolfer (Paul), Jenny Koebeke (David & children), Gregory Solomon, and David M. Jones (Dorothy McNoble).
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene C. Van Alden and mother, Catherine McNaughton Van Alden; his first wife of 30 years, Helen C. (Carr) Van Alden; his second wife of 13 years, Ann Jones Van Alden; his sister, Mary Delich (Henry Delich and daughter, Rosemary Erland); his sisters-in-law, Mary (Carr) Long (Robert Long), Angie (Carr) Solomon (Vincent); and brothers-in-law, John Carr (Delores), Steve Carr (Thula), and Joe Carr.
Fred had a great sense of humor and told jokes at the Oldtimer’s Club, KC, until he was 93. He was a graduate of Wyandotte High School and Transportation School. Fred retired as a Traffic Manger from Tnemec in December, 1988 preceded by a long career as a Traffic Manager at Battenfeld-Grease & Oil. Fred was a World War II Veteran, honorably discharged from the Army in 1946. Fred belonged to the Traffic Club of Kansas City, Transportation Club and was an Adjutant for the American Legion.
He was also a member of the National Guard in 1939. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and Trinity Lutheran Church. Fred will be missed by many. Gifts in his honor may be given to Children’s Mercy Hospital Cancer Center. Condolences: Patricia, LAM Assoc, PO Box 14349, Phoenix, AZ 85035.
