After starting her family, her career life began with attending cosmetology school with employment at J.C. Penny’s salon for 14 years. She continued to educate herself through All Saint’s Catholic Center’s Microsoft Office courses. This led to brief stints of working for DST Systems, WyCo Sherriff’s Office and as one of the first Spanish translators for Sprint Technologies on the Country Club Plaza. Elena finally found a home at the U.S. Postal Service in KCMO as a letter key processing clerk from which she retired from in 2012.

Elena’s interests included playing tennis, softball, Bingo at The Guadalupe Center, concerts, dancing, and of course spending time with family and friends. Not to forget the company of her dogs, Chile and Coco.
Elena was the epitome of greatness and a renaissance woman in her own rite. Elena associated herself with a butterfly (Mariposa). Elena, being one of nine children gained and learned her strength and independence from her mother to which she instilled in all of her children. Elena believed in continuous life education while being an advocate for the less fortunate and oppressed. Elena just wanted us all to be safe, happy and loved.
Elena also had a very loving and caring side to her once she accepted you but beware not to abuse that trust as she was quick to call you on it. This quality also made her the family baby whisperer. They felt safe and loved in her embrace.
She is survived by her children, Sherman, Christina, son-in-law (Pat), and Patrick; grandchildren, Luis, wife (Lenny), Priscilla, Cristian, Ashley, Lilly, Carlos, Patrick, Jr., and Jasmine; great grandchildren, Nataly, Michael, and Daniel; brothers, Louie, Martin, and Michael, sisters, Gloria and Rita; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
