Clemmie Davis, 82, passed away at KU Medical Center on October 11, 2022, after spending a wonderful life of service. She was born on September 24, 1940, to the union of Nathaniel and Cleo Wilson in Ruston, Louisiana. She was one of eleven children of which her only brother and (5) sisters preceded her in death. She graduated in 1964 from Grambling College with a teaching degree specializing in Special Education. During her tenure as a teacher in the Kansas City Kansas School District, she decided to attend Emporia State University to receive her master’s degree in Counseling. It was her desire to serve her students to the fullest. She retired from the school district after 28 years of service.
Clemmie was a devoted member of the 8th Street Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was an active member in the Women’s Ministry, Christian Education Ministry as a Sunday school and vacation bible schoolteacher. She currently served as treasurer for the Mission group. She was an avid reader of the Scriptures’ and lived her life as she taught her Sunday school students. While she served in many capacities, she was most proud to serve as the president of the Baptist Training Union under the leadership of Pastor TM Preston. Clemmie attended faithfully the National and Kaw Valley District Congress of Christian Education.
Clemmie exemplified each of the twelve fruits of the spirit but was known for her giving spirit, patience, and faithfulness. Church members will remember Clemmie for the beautiful Sunday hats she wore. Members could also find her sitting in the same aisle seat on the third row where she has sat since she became a member of 8th Street Baptist Church 50 years ago. In her spare time, she enjoyed addressing the needs of others through the mission group and playing solitaire on her phone. Each day, she loved watching the View and Dr. Phil. Her favorite saying came from her father who said, “let me give you something else to think about.” Her son, grandchildren, and friends will greatly miss her fudge, cheesecake, seven-layer bars, and pound cake for Christmas.
While Clemmie’s oldest son, Rickey Davis, preceded her in death, she is survived by (4) sisters Celia Johnson of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Gloria Harris of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mary Ann Clark (Leonard) of Houston, Texas and Robbie Boatner of Sacramento, California. She is also survived by (1) son, Randal Davis, Grand Prairie, Texas; (4) grandchildren, Rashan Davis, Michala Davis, Rashad Davis, and Jaala Taylor (Jordan); (4) great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her.
