Betty was born on September 03, 1943 in Kansas City, Kansas to Jesse Avis Simmons and Edna Bilvery Simmons. Betty married Robert D. Powell on September 21st, 1962 and they made their home in Kansas City, KS.
Betty retired from Schneider Electric after 20+ years. She also worked for USD 500 at Coronado Middle School. She enjoyed her work as an administrative assistant especially the lifelong friendships that she developed with many of her colleagues. Betty and Bob enjoyed watching their sons play all of their various sports and their love of watching their family’s activities continued with their grandchildren, nieces and nephews and even their kids. Betty loved spending time with family and friends, whether it was holidays, dinners out, trips to the casinos or traveling. Betty and Bob took many trips to Las Vegas, Branson and even spent their 30th anniversary in Hawaii, which was their dream vacation. She also, especially liked her trips to Ponak’s Mexican restaurant, which started with her husband Bob, and continued after his passing with various family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Dwayne Powell in 2007 and her son Randall (Randy) Scott Powell in 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents and five brothers: Wendell, Jesse, Melvin, Wayne and Richard Simmons.
She is survived by her son, Robert S. Powell and his wife Shannon Gaster Powell, granddaughter Alexandria N. Powell Pestinger (Alex), granddaughter Victoria B. Powell, grandson Wyatt R. Powell, great granddaughter Lola Jean Pestinger, great grandson Theo Jon Pestinger, brother Jerry Simmons and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The visitation will be Friday November 10th, 2023 at 9:00 am followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 am at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112.
