Barbara (Barb) was born 2/11/38 in Kansas City, Kansas to George and Madge Emma (Eads) Woods. She had 2 older brothers, George, Jr. (Sonny), and Jim.
She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1956 and was a class officer in several of her high school years. While there, she was involved in many clubs and activities. Barb has lifelong friends from Frances Willard Grade School to Wyandotte High, which was a testament to her loyalty and her genuine friendship.
Barbara married Dale Scott in 1956 and, together, they had three children - Debbie, Dale, Jr (Scotty) and David.
In 1987, she married Paul Johnson. Paul and Barb enjoyed golf, bowling, travel and had many friends that accompanied them on their travels. Paul passed away in 2011 after Barb lovingly took care of him at home.
She was an active member through the years of Muncie La Sertoma, Opti-Mrs, Wesley United Methodist Church, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
In addition to being a great mother, Barb was a respected businesswoman, her love of people made her a natural in sales. Starting with selling Avon while her children were young, then part-time real estate, and then working with Carpet Corner from its infancy to becoming one the region’s largest flooring retailers. She opened several stores as manager in a time when women were not prominent in those roles, all the while never missing any of her kids’ activities.
Of her many accomplishments in life, her proudest achievements were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even though she had success in business, her fondest and most fulfilling years were spent raising her children and watching them grow.
Barb was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Donating countless hours, helping to ensure Wesley stayed open in times when many of the older churches in the area closed their doors.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, George and Madge Woods, brothers, George, Jr. (Sonny) and Jim Woods, and her loving husband, Paul Johnson.
Barb leaves behind her 3 children: daughter, Debra (Tom) Steinmetz, sons, Dale Jr (Karen) Scott, and David (Kathy) Scott, and daughter-in-law Sherri Bailey-Scott. Six grandchildren: Deanna (Stephen) Sheets, Tommy Jr. (Erin) Steinmetz, Trisha (P.J.) Dhabolt, David Scott Jr., Trey (Lauren) Scott and Brett Scott. Soon to be 9 great-grandchildren, Dia, Rhiannon, Brigit Dhabolt, Dylan and Evan Sheets, Tatum and Mara Steinmetz, Allie Rae Scott, with another great-grandson on the way.
Barb’s loving children would like to thank the staff at the Piper Assisted Living for welcoming and taking such good care of mom in her final days, especially Janneice, Sydney, and Paula, just to name a few. Their loving care was truly felt by our mom. We would also like to thank Faith Hospice and their wonderful staff for helping mom have a peaceful end of life.
We have all been blessed to have been in her life.
