Archie Lemoine Wood, age 93 of Leawood, Kansas, formerly a long time resident of Kansas City, Kansas. Archie Lemoine passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022. Archie was the son of the late John E. Wood and Pearl Porter born February 6, 1929 in Eldon, Missouri.
Archie joined the United States Marine Corps on November 30, 1946. He spent three years in the United States Marine Corps and another three years as a United States Marine Corps Reserve.
The United States Marine Corps recognized Archie with a good conduct medal for his entire service stating that his conduct during this period denotes honest and faithful service in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps. Archie was a true American and loved his country.
Archie worked for The Marley Cooling Tower Company for 42 years.
Archie married Collene Jesse Mercer on March 19, 1950, who preceded him in death on February 7, 1979. They were married for nearly 29 years. They had a daughter, Shirley (Bill) Ormsby; and two sons
David (Ruth) Wood and Larry (LaDonna) Wood.
Archie married Hazel Eugene “Jean” Carley on February 9, 1980. Jean had five daughters, Kathleen (Robert) Parrish; Vicki (Bob) Rosenbaum; Julie Peerson; Jonita (Randy) Stroble; Ginny (Harold) Rich and one son Chris (Roxanna) Carley. The two families then became one.
Archie was blessed with many nieces and nephews. He had 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Archie was known by many as a storyteller. He always had the most amazing stories to share and could captivate friends and family alike.
Archie and Jean enjoyed riding their motorcycle through the mountains of Colorado and Arkansas, traveling in their motorhome and taking the grandchildren to Meramec Caverns for Bluegrass concerts. Having Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at their house for many years will always be cherished in our hearts. Archie loved the Lord and through his actions showed his family how to unconditionally love.
A visitation for Archie will be held Monday, March 28, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, also at the chapel. A graveside service will be immediately following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
