She was born in Farmington, Illinois September 3, 1920, the fourth child of Zimmer and Lillie Arnold. The family moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1927. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1938. In 1941 she married Daniel Bate Frye. During World War II she worked as an inspector at Lake City Ordnance and later was a secretary at Gerner Garment Company. She worked 13 years for the CDC Laboratory in the Ecological Investigations Section until it closed its field office in Kansas City. She retired from the lab at the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Leavenworth, Kansas in 1982. Alice and Daniel owned and operated Motor Equipment Company in Kansas City, Missouri until his death in 1981. In 1987 she married Charles T. Spencer of Bremerton, Washington. They divided their time between Kansas City, Kansas and Bremerton, Washington so they might be able to enjoy both of their families. This continued until his death in 2010.
Alice loved getting together with her neighbor best friends to play ping-pong in the winter and lawn darts in the summer. She was an avid fisher and could outlast anyone fishing with her. She had a passion to travel and learn about new things and places. She crisscrossed the United States many times, including Alaska and Hawaii and she visited the Bahamas, Haiti, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands to name just a few. She is a lifetime member of Roger E. Sherman Chapter 8 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by daughters Elaine (Larry) Sledd of Lawrence, Kansas and Becky Peterson of Kansas City, Kansas; nearly daughter Joy Cicero of Kansas City, Kansas; grandsons Gregg (MarySue) Sledd of Lecompton, Kansas; Brian (Jeri) Sledd of Lawrence, Kansas; Benjamin Peterson and Daniel Peterson both of Kansas City, Kansas; 11 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
