Hazel Wai Inn Chong, passed at the age of 95. She was born on November 21st, 1927 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She attended and graduated from the Sacred Hearts Academy in Kaimuki. She was raised in the family home located in Palolo along with her two brothers, Herbert Kop and Robert Kop. She started at the Federal Housing Administration, (FHA) which later became Housing and Urban Development, (HUD) raising to the position of Director of Administrative Services. She retired in 1977 after 30 years of service as a Housing Management Specialist. Hazel raised three children, Dayna Bareng, Curtis Chong and Russell Chong. She was married to Koon Kwon Chong for 57 years. Hazel and K.K. traveled the world together and always had golf clubs as their primary pieces of luggage. The most notable course played, was the famous Old Course at Saint Andrews.
Hazel was a kind, caring, loving, and generous person; and was loved by all who have had the privilege to know her.
Hazel is survived by her children Dayna Sun Hoy Bareng, Curtis Dut Mung Chong, wife Peggy Chong, and Russell Dart Lun Chong, wife Mona Chong: four grandchildren, Tina Ottinger, Brenden Bareng, Ashley Maeshiro, Aaron Russell Chong, and one great-grandchild Bailey Maeshiro.
Visitation 9 a.m., Wednesday April 12th at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel; service at 10 a.m.; burial at 1 p.m. at at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery. Casual attire.
