Marie is survived by her four children, Keith (Susan), Joanne, John (Olga), and Brad (Nina), as well as nine grandchildren, Taylor, Mitchell, Jimmy, Katie, Maha, Georgia, Hayden, Lily, Max, and two great grandchildren, George and Lara.
Marie was predeceased by her husband Ron in December of 2020 as well as her six siblings.
Marie was born in 1932 in La Glace, Alberta. Life growing up was full of challenges, the family ultimately landed in Black Creek on Vancouver Island and made that their permanent home.
Marie worked summers during her teen years at Painter’s Lodge in Campbell River.
Marie moved to Vancouver after high school with three of her older sisters. Her first job was with BC Tel. She met Ron there, they fell in love and married in 1955. Shortly thereafter they moved to Victoria where their four children were born. In 1971 they moved again from a very comfortable life in Victoria to Magna Bay on Shuswap Lake, BC where they purchased a summer family resort - Twin Cedars Lodge. Mom’s quote - “it had a nine room lodge, dining room, six cabins and came complete with many problems.”
Mom was able to put her incredible cooking skills to work providing wonderful meals in the Lodge dining room. Guests travelled from afar, quite often by boat, to enjoy the great food and especially her legendary pies.
The property was eventually developed into cottage lots, they sold 14, kept one and built a cottage where many fun filled years were spent.
Marie was an avid tennis and badminton player, as well as a very accomplished golfer
(10 handicap!) Marie and Ron loved to play for pleasure and competitively. Mom was proud to become ladies Champion in 1999 and held several Senior Ladies Championships in the following years at Rivershore Golf Club.
Marie loved to play a good game of bridge and enjoyed many years at the bridge table. She was also a member of the local PEO Sisterhood group for many years.
Marie and Ron enjoyed travelling south for the winters for more golf with friends. They had many memorable trips to England, Europe and the 2011 Masters in Augusta, Georgia.
Marie lived life very well. Her specialness included endless kindness, generosity, dignity, integrity, extraordinary fashion sense, and a great sense of humour. Marie was content and happy to her final days.
She will be missed so so much.
We love you Mom and Grandma.
May you rest in peace.
A Celebration of Life is planned for August 2, 2024, 1:00 pm for Ron and Marie at Mason’s Fireside Room at Sun Rivers, Kamloops, BC
