With great sadness we announce the passing of Hans Uppenborn on February 3rd at the age of 80. Hans was born December 3, 1943 in Essen, Germany. When Hans was a young boy, his family moved to Barriere, BC where they would begin a new life. He was predeceased by both his parents, Tony and Ruth Uppenborn.
Hans was a locomotive engineer and worked for Canadian Pacific Railway for over 30 years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, golfing and hunting, as well as watching sports on TV. One of his favorite activities was watching his children play sports, whether it was basketball in the driveway or volleyball in the school gym. Hans was his children’s biggest and proudest fan.
During his retirement Hans traveled with his wife Laurie. His last few trips he enjoyed the most were Cuba as well as a group tour to the maritimes. He spent a few years volunteering for the Kamloops Blazers. One of his favorite retirement hobbies included taking walks to the river with the family dogs.
Hans is survived by his wife, Laurie. His children Damian and Lindsay (Zac) as well as his 6 grandchildren.
