Born: Lipton, Sk, April 28, 1938
Passed: Kamloops, BC, July 31, 2022
Darlyne Rodgers passed away peacefully at Overlander Extended Care, July 31, 2022. Born in
1938, she was Lillian Neff and Bill Meckling's only child. She grew up in Lipton, SK, and later
moved to Fort Qu'Appelle, SK, with then husband, Rene Simoneau. The couple had one child,
Debora Simoneau, of Kamloops, BC.
After moving to Kamloops in 1968, mom worked as a Homemaker for Kamloops Home
Support Services and later became Director of KHSS. Her "hands on" approach made her a
favorite among the many Homemakers who worked under her leadership.
Mom was a feisty, take charge person who always had to be doing something. At various
times, she campaigned for the Kamloops Liberal Party, helped sandbag during the floods of
'72, and volunteered at Desert Gardens Senior Center, Canada Games and various Curling
bonspiels. She was President of the 5th Wheelers Club and also headed her condo complex's
Strata Council for several years.
Baseball and curling were mom's favorite sports. She Skipped a rink in the Kamloops Business
Women's League in the 80s and was a staunch Blue Jays fan.
Mom loved to travel and we enjoyed numerous cruises, RV, and land trips, from Alaska to
Hawaii, across Canada, Mexico to Central and South America, and throughout the Caribbean.
Cannon Beach, Oregon was her favorite place and she enjoyed road trips up and down the
west coast with her husband Bob (deceased) and myself.
In later years, mom rarely missed morning coffee at Tim's with her dear friends, Sandra
(deceased) and Wes Palmer. At Tim's, she could be found chatting away with friends and
acquaintances.
I will miss her terribly and so will our cousins in SK and BC, and her friends, including her
closest, Daphne Pease of Barrie, ON.
Mom is predeceased by her mother, Lillian Neff; father, Bill Meckling; step-dad, Jim Neff; and
husband, Bob Rodgers.
I am grateful to Patrick, Frances, Audrey and the other wonderful nurses and care aides in
Overlander's Orchard Grove and Blueberry units who loved my mom and took great care of her
under difficult circumstances. Thank you Drs. Doug Hamilton and Cristina Liciu. Special thanks
to family friends, Patricia Schneider, Lisa Bragg, Kathy Dahl, and Wes Palmer. who spent time
with mom and offered me their help during her final days.
No Funeral by request. Donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada (Lewy Body Dementia
focus) much appreciated.
