Blaine was born August 24, 1929, in Warner, Alberta to Roy and Maggie Rains. On March 26, 1955, he married Agnes Nagel and they raised three children Lynden (Cathy), Penny (Gordon) and Kevin (Jean).
Blaine and Agnes owned and operated the “Clip and Curl” Beauty Salon until he started his career with Revenue Canada Customs and Excise in 1967. He was stationed in various places such as Wildhorse and Coutts, Alberta, Torquay, Saskatchewan, Nelson and Trail, BC and finally retired in Red Deer, Alberta in 1990 at the age of 61.
He has six grandchildren, Derek, Brent, Brenna, Laura, Michael and Bryce, and six great grandchildren, Avery, Mira, Tashi, Brielle, Maddison and Payton.
After the passing of his first wife, Blaine met Effie Caston from Nelson, they married on June 29, 1996, and recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
Blaine loved sports and played ball in his younger years and was also an accomplished bowler and has played the game for over 50 years. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and was also an ardent hockey fan who cheered for the Vancouver Canucks. Blaine’s favorite TV show was Bonanza and he even got to visit the Ponderosa Ranch.
Blaine was preceded by his father, mother and brothers Alan Rains of Lethbridge, Alberta, Calvin Rains of Warner, Alberta. He is survived by his wife Effie.
His life will be celebrated with a small family gathering in Nelson, BC at a later date.
