Antonio “Tony” Corea, 91, of Kamloops, passed away on January 15, 2024 with his family by his side. Tony was born to Francesco and Ernestina Corea in Albi, Catanzaro, Italy on May 11,1932. In April 1952 , looking for an opportunity to make a better life for himself, Tony moved to Canada and shortly after started working on the CN Railway with his Uncle Joe. Tony quickly fell in love with his new country and soon after became a Canadian citizen. Although he was proud of his home country of Italy, he became a true Canadian at heart, often overheard singing along with the national anthem during the Canucks games on television. Tony married the love of his life, Maria on January 7, 1967 and they made a life for themselves.
Tony is already deeply missed by his sons Dave (Sonja) Corea and Paul (Pina) Corea and his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Anthony, Nicola, Alesandro, Adriana and Lucas. He was a true family man, everything he did was to ensure the best life for his wife, boys and grandchildren. Tony worked for several years at CN Railway as a crane operator. Unfortunately, his job took him out of town a lot, so he made the decision after his boys were born to leave CN Railway and began working in maintenance at Woodward's Department Store, until he retired. Tony loved being in his garden. He filled his backyard with fruit trees, grape vines and any vegetable plant you could think of. He was a “jack-of-all-trades” and could fix almost anything without any formal training. Tony loved making wine. Everyone who ever had his wine always highly complimented it- it packed a punch and it went perfect with his wife's delicious meals.
Tony was predeceased by his wife, Maria who left us one month ago, to the day. We would like to thank the amazing staff at Royal Inland Hospital on 6 North who provided exceptional compassionate care to our dad in his final days.
Prayers for Tony will be at OLPH church on Monday, January 22 at 7:00pm. Funeral will be at OLPH church on Tuesday, January 23 at 11:00am, entombment to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
