Raymond Paul Caldiero passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was 89 years old. Known to many for his huge smile and gregarious nature, he was a pillar of warmth and charisma who never met a stranger and was always the life of the party.
Ray, an aviation veteran, began his career as Publisher for Aviation Space and Technology Magazine. He then transitioned to Marriott Corporation, where he served in numerous roles in Inflight Catering, Marketing, Sales and finally as Executive Vice President and Special Assistant to the Chairman for over 20 years. One of his most notable accomplishments was the creation and development of the first Hotel Loyalty program–Marriott Rewards, a precursor to the current Marriott Bonvoy Program. Following Marriott, he served for 12 years as Vice President of Northwest Airlines where he championed the sales and marketing efforts. Most recently Ray held the position of Chairman of the Aerospace Technologies Group, the premier developer and supplier of window shade systems for private and commercial aviation. His passion for aviation paralleled his zest for life, making a significant impact in each field he touched.
Ray was active in political Presidential campaigns serving as Director of Entertainment for President's Nixon and Ford and Chairman of the Inaugural Gala for President Reagan. He was appointed by President Bush to the Board of Directors of the USO where he served multiple terms culminating in a trip to Afghanistan to support the troops. He was an active member of the Board of Directors for the Princess Grace Foundation where he supported emerging artists.
Ray was an accomplished trumpet player and band leader. He parlayed this talent while at Syracuse University where he received a musical scholarship. While at University, he started the band, Ray Caldiero and the Saltine Warriors and played at numerous clubs in the area. His love for music was as profound as his commitment to his fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta, where he formed lifelong friendships.
Ray's life was marked, not only by his professional achievements and personal passions, but also by the deep and lasting relationships he nurtured throughout his life, embodying a spirit of generosity and unwavering love for his family and friends.
Ray is survived by his daughters, Donna Lindsay (Mark) and Karin Goldstuck (Charles) and grandchildren, TJ, Katherine and Olivia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Caldiero, the love of his life.
A private burial service will be held in Naples, Florida, where Ray will be reunited with his beloved Lois. A Celebration of Life will take place post holidays at Devonshire Senior Living in Palm Beach Gardens, where family and friends can share memories of Ray's vibrant life.
