N. Suzanne “Suzy” Bryant, 85, passed away on November 9, 2024, at her home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, surrounded by her family after a valiant two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on February 8, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Edith Isabelle Barnhill and Kenneth Franklin Hufford.
Suzy’s love of the outdoors began in her early childhood, nurtured by visits to her grandparents’ farm and apple orchard in Noblesville, Indiana. After surviving several childhood illnesses, she developed a lifelong fascination with penguins during her mandated quarantine, sparked by reading the children’s book Mr. Popper’s Penguins. In junior high and high school, she was actively involved in community theater.
A proud graduate of Shortridge High School (Indianapolis, IN), Suzy attended many reunions over the years. She began her college education at Miami University (OH) but transferred to Ohio University after meeting the love of her life, Bobby Bryant, on a blind date. She blossomed at OU, joining Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, being named Military Ball Queen, and winning the election for Senior Class Secretary. Suzy graduated in 1961 with a degree in Commercial Art and a minor in Interior Design.
Suzy and Bobby married in 1962 and enjoyed an extended honeymoon in Germany, where he served in the U.S. Army Infantry until 1963. They settled in Dayton, Ohio, started their family, and co-owned and operated the 741 Golf Center for a dozen years. Suzy built all of the “Peanuts” comic strip themed elements for the 18-hole miniature golf course, and she was pretty handy fixing baseball pitching machines too!
In 1977, the family moved to Florida, where Suzy began her real estate career at Properties Unlimited in Palm Beach Gardens in 1979. In 1986, Bobby and Suzy established Bryant Realty Brokers, Inc. Following his passing in 2003 after 41 years of marriage, Suzy continued working in real estate into her early 80s.
Suzy was a very talented seamstress who learned to sew from her grandmother. Throughout her lifetime, she made clothes for herself and her daughters, created stuffed animals, and upholstered furniture. Her true passion was crafting unique quilts and fabric art for friends and family. She loved decorating, dressing up, planning parties, and making her surroundings beautiful.
Suzy enjoyed traveling, from adventures across the United States to church mission trips in Guatemala and Cuba. She especially cherished trips with friends and family to destinations such as Europe, Alaska, Israel, Bali, Japan, and Antarctica, fulfilling her lifelong dream to see penguins in their natural habitat.
Suzy was a longtime, active member at Trinity United Methodist Church of Palm Beach Gardens (now Christ Fellowship Trinity), serving in leadership roles on the Missions Committee, Women in Christ, Family Promise, Women’s Retreat planning committees, and the Preschool “Tot Shop.” She also taught Sunday School and Bible Study Fellowship, and she was a member of the church’s Staff Parish, the Trustees Committee, and the “Kingdom Partnership with Christ Fellowship” committee. Throughout her life, Suzy demonstrated her love for others with her servant’s heart.
Through her involvement at Trinity, she formed a beloved circle of “sisters in Christ” whose enduring friendship she deeply valued. Suzy’s love for her family and friends was overflowing and unconditional.
Suzy is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Debbie Wiley (David) of Jupiter and Marcy Taylor (Rob) of Lisle, IL; her grandchildren: Greg Wiley of Orlando, FL, Grace Wiley of Tallahassee, FL, and Jack Taylor of Lisle, IL; her step-sisters: Martha Hamm Yardley (Gene) of Tulsa, OK, and Lila Hamm Myers (Randy) of Providence, FL; her brother-in-law, Tommy Bryant Jr. (Niecy) of Summerfield, FL, and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased in death by her beloved husband Robert L. “Bobby” Bryant.
