Mildred A. Downing

Mildred Agnes Richter Downing (Millie) passed away on January 10, 2024 at the age of 98 at the Brookdale Tequesta Memory Care facility in Tequesta, FL. She was born in Stamford, CT to her parents Regina K. Richter and Harry John Richter Sr. of Stamford, Connecticut, and graduated from Stamford High School.

Mildred was married to Raymond Francis Downing on September 25, 1948 in Stamford and they were married for 52 years until his death in 2000.

During WWII Mildred was employed at the Yale and Towne Lock Company in Stamford, Connecticut.

Years later, while raising 4 children, she worked as a waitress and bartender for Armando's Restaurant in Stamford, Connecticut. She enjoyed card games with the family, especially pinochle, swimming, vacationing in Florida and along the East Coast as well as Hawaii, going on walks, and get-togethers with her extended family, whether hosting or visiting.

She is survived by her son, Charles Thomas Downing and wife Judith of Running Springs, California, daughters Jacquelyn Marie Gormly and partner Buddy of North Chittenden, Vermont, Barbara Jean Ficano and husband Leonard of Jupiter, Florida, Maryann Rekofsky and husband Stanley of Sandy Hook, Connecticut, grandchildren Jason Downing and wife Angel, Michael Gormly, Will Gormly and wife Allison, Allyson Nuti and husband Drew, Christopher Rekofsky, Michelle Rekofsky, great granddaughter Winnie Gormly and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents as well as her sisters Jean R. McGrath of Stamford, Connecticut, Regina M. (Babe) Andrews of Cheshire, Connecticut, and Catherine H. Vigliotti of Yorktown Hts., New York. She was also predeceased by her brothers Charles Francis Richter of New Bern, North Carolina, Harry J. Richter Jr. of Manassas, Virginia, Francis Edward Richter of Columbia Crossroads, Pennsylvania and grandson William Downing.

Mildred will be buried next to her husband Raymond in Connecticut in June.
