Grace A. Wilkie, a resident of Garrison, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL passed away on March 29, 2020. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 13, 1950; the daughter of the late John and Marjorie McQuade.
Grace taught mathematics for 13 years at Blue Mountain Middle School and 22 years at Hendrick Hudson High School. In 2001 she started a full day Math Lab not only for Academic Intervention but also for Academic Enrichment. Many students enrolled in this non-credit bearing class and found success in their mathematics class. In addition to her teaching duties, Grace has her Professional Certificate in School Administration and Supervision from SUNY New Paltz and had been a teacher in charge of the high school when called upon. She retired on July 1, 2007. Grace was president of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of NYS, the NY State Association Mathematics Supervisors of the Ten County Mathematics Educators Association and the NY State Mathematics Honor Society. She was a board trustee for the Desmond Fish Library, moderator for Garrison Union Fee School District and Candidates Night, facilitator for Manitoga and math advisor for author Jean Marzollo new e-book series. Grace was nationally recognized as a Randy Shack Tandy Scholar and received numerous awards from Who’s Who Among American Teachers. In her retirement, Grace continued her professional service as a member of the NY Teachers Subject Area Committee, president of the NY State Council of Educational Association and would speak at Mathematic Conferences.
She enjoyed reading, boating with her husband and was politically involved and helped any organization in need.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Peter L. Wilkie; two brothers, Jack and Timothy McQuade and two sisters, Eileen Fedele and Kathy Calabro.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a brother, Raymond McQuade.
