Ellen G. Poulin

Small in size but big in personality, Ellen “Tiny” Poulin, 97, passed quietly in her sleep on the morning of 7 March 2021. Born to Scottish immigrants, John Gorman and Elizabeth MacLachlan, on 24 December 1923, in Wethersfield, Conn, she was one of six children.

Citing her Scottish heritage, Tiny developed a passion for the game of golf as a young girl. She played on the Wethersfield High School golf team and continued playing throughout her life. Her family will always cherish the many enjoyable weekends and family vacations spent on the golf course. Known to “hit it a ton”, and putt “lights out”, she would always take your “nickel” on the putting green. In her later years, she spent many enjoyable days with her family and friends playing the fabulous golf courses of Palm Beach County, Florida and Roaring Gap, North Carolina.

Following World War II, she married her love, Howard “Howie” Poulin, a highly decorated fighter pilot. Together they began a 27 year career with the Air Force. It was an exciting life, filled with travel and adventure. She truly loved the Air Force and the Air Force way of life. There were many assignments, both stateside and overseas. Never a burden, but always an adventure, she loved the international postings the most: Panama, France, Italy, and Spain. She easily made friends wherever her travels took her. She embraced each culture, she could handle restaurants and grocery shopping in several different languages, she loved cooking, and was skilled at whipping up tasty international dishes.

Always witty, funny, and at times feisty, she had a clever and endearing nickname for everyone. She was fun to talk to, and was known to throw out “one-liners” that would crack up an entire room. Her friends and family cherished her great love of life. She loved her family more than anything. She will be dearly missed by friends, family, and all who knew her. Her family is particularly grateful to Mangrove Bay; all her friends, the support staff, and for her lovely apartment, which she dearly loved, overlooking the intercoastal waterway.

She is survived by her two sons, Rusty (Debra), and Randy (Jackie), 6 grandchildren, and 12 great- grandchildren. She now joins her husband Howard, and first son Ricky. A loving family memorial was conducted at Riverside Memorial Park, Tequesta, Florida.
