David’s love of aviation began at age 2. His first solo flight was at age 15. This passion transformed into a 30+ year professional career. He began flying with Rocky Mountain Airways before being hired by American Airlines at age 23. While at American Airlines he flew many different types of aircraft, reaching Captain on the Boeing 767.
David was born in Washington, D.C., his parents, Robert and Lois (Greenfield) later moved to Silver Spring Maryland. He shared many fond memories with his brothers Bruce, and Rick and a neighborhood of young friends. In his adolescence he was in a band, Orion, in which he played lead guitar. He graduated from Springbrook High School in 1973.
He is predeceased by his father, Robert. However, his mother Lois now boasts a young 98 years old.
Second only to his love for flying, his love for motorcycling, took him on many adventures. He travelled the east coast of the U.S. on his Harley Davidson touring bike, enjoying the freedom of the open road.
He spent time as a volunteer in the Emergency Department at Jupiter Medical Center, eventually serving as President of the Auxiliary. Later, he worked as Director of Volunteer Services at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He enjoyed spending time with the patients and their families.
David is survived by his significant other, Angela Prestia.Their love spanned 20 years. He leaves behind his son, Brian (fiancée Jaqueline Doolittle) and served as a role model to Richard (Kristin), and Chelsea (Joseph). His love for grandchildren, Aria (8), Lana (5), Jude (3) and Aurora (3 months), was unconditional. He taught them how to fish, drive the boat, ride bicycles, and hunt for alligators at Jonathan Dickinson State Park. One of his favorite past times was playing guitar and teaching them to appreciate Beatles’ music.
To celebrate David's life, visitation will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 5:15 PM at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home from 5:15 PM to 6:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in David’s name to either Fort Freedom or Association for Leadership Science in Nursing.
