Barbara Allen of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, age 67, recently passed away at her home with her family by her side. The daughter of the late Dr. Wayne & Katherine Allen, she grew up in Athens, PA. After graduating from Athens Area High School, class of 73, and Green Mountain College, in Poultney, VT, in 1975, she then went on to complete her studies and medical training from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center Physician Assistant program in 1980. Barbara returned to Sayre, PA to work in the Pediatric Dept. of the Guthrie Clinic, Robert Packer Hospital, the same hospital where her father was a Pediatrician for many years.
In 1983 she married David Uhl, and headed to Jacksonville, FL. Barbara worked with the Children's Medical Group until 1987 when she and David moved to South Florida. She switched directions working in the field of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, working over 26 years until retirement in Oct. 2021 at Allergy, Asthma & Sinus Center along with Dr.Gabriel Gonzalez. Barbara enjoyed bike riding, fresh flowers and flower gardening, reading and seeking out any Indie bookstore in any town she would be visiting. She appreciated all forms of music from classical to the salsa of Pink Martini to the Rolling Stones. She preferred a full body red, but on rare, chilly Florida evenings she'd resort to her mother's favorite - a Perfect Manhattan, on the rocks with a twist! More recently she enjoyed quiet time on their dock on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina.
Barbara is survived by her husband, David Uhl, children Caroline Fraska, (Mike), and baby granddaughter Charlotte Fraska of Tampa FL, and Chase Uhl, (Alyna), of Jupiter, FL, sisters Becky Allen of Centennial, CO, Melanie Allen of Norwalk, CT and sister and brother-in-law Mary Lyn and Richard Ballantine of Durango, CO, many nieces and nephews and the extended Uhl family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, David.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Florida.
Though Barbara loved fresh flowers she requests in lieu of flowers to consider a donation to the Florida Chapter of the Sari Center for Integrative Core, (Sari Center, Integrative Cancer Care saricenter.org), or the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County (literacypbc.org)
