Albert (Al) Robert Sieg, 81, of Sewickley, PA, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Friday, August 9, 2024 in Pittsburgh, surrounded by loved ones. Son of Albert and Josephine Hanna Sieg, who predeceased him, Al grew up in the Upper St. Clair suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. He was in the first graduating class of Upper St. Clair High School, attended Muskingum College, and earned a B.A. in Psychology and
his Masters in Education at The University of Pittsburgh, where he also completed all coursework for his Ph.D.
Throughout his life, Al was endlessly fascinated by electronics, and, even as a young boy, loved to tinker with disassembling and rebuilding various devices. He directed his lifelong passion for technology into his early career as an educator, teaching electronics for many years, first at Peabody High School in Pittsburgh, followed by California University of Pennsylvania and The Community College of Beaver County. A dedicated life-long learner, Al turned his curiosity and thirst for knowledge into the study of economics and the development of complex trading strategies.
Al had a broad array of interests that he was passionate about sharing. He was a model train enthusiast from his earliest beginnings, priding himself on the complexity of his multi-track layouts. Intrigued by martial arts, he earned a Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu. Certified as a private pilot, Al spent many hours in single-engine aircrafts, often accompanied by friends and family. He also loved the water and became an accomplished scuba diver and kayaker. On land, he was an avid skier who was quite active in the Pittsburgh Ski Club, serving as its President from 2008-2009. One of his greatest passions, however, was cooking ethnic cuisines and sharing fine meals.
In his later life, Al spent time both in Pittsburgh and Florida. He was a kind and generous man, with an infectious laugh and bright smile, who was genuinely intent on helping others. Al cherished family memories and his travel adventures with dear friends and family. He loved and was loved by his two surviving aunts and many dear cousins who were like brothers and sisters to him. Visitation and a memorial service will be held at Aycock Riverside Funeral Home on September 14th in Jupiter, Florida, followed by a burial at Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Tequesta, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank or Marine Toys for Tots.
