Matthew Allen Ashbrook

Matthew Allen Ashbrook, 58, of Johnstown, Ohio passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on Sunday October 27th, 2024. Matt, son of Margaret Potter (Warren) and Mark Ashbrook, was born on October 6th, 1966 in Franklin County. Matt graduated from Northridge High School in 1985. He married his highschool sweetheart Melissa (McDaniel) on July 6, 1991.

Matt attended Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio for the culinary arts. He worked as a chef for sixteen years at the New Albany Country Club. Most recently, Matt worked as a cook at Rattlesnake Ridge Country Club Golf Course. Matt loved to cook and was the best cook in the world. His favorite dishes to make were chili, stuffed peppers, stir-fry, grilled salmon, quesadillas, guacamole, au gratin potatoes, baker-style potatoes, sausage gravy, waffles, elephant ears, pecan pie, beef and noodles, cookies, and of course, homemade pizza.

He also enjoyed shooting clays, roller coasters, rock climbing, tennis, watching football, going antique shopping, watching movies and his favorite tv shows, playing pool and darts, Scrabble, card games, and going to Fiesta del Rio and Fiesta Mexicana for Mexican food. He especially loved going camping and was famous for his intricate tarp-system above the campsite, which kept the entire campsite dry, and for his camp spice cheeseburgers. He loved his pets, including his black lab Tuco, who he would take for a truck ride almost daily to Fredonia Mall for a slice of pizza, and his nine kitties. His favorite places were Cedar Point, Hocking Hills, and Linwood Park.

Matt is survived by his loving wife of thirty-three years, Melissa, his daughter Audrey, his son Adrian, his brother Joe (Emily) Potter, mother Margaret Potter, stepdad Ron (Dawn) Potter, and his many beloved aunts, uncles, nephews, niece, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Mark Ashbrook, and his grandparents.

Matt's Celebration of Life is Thursday November 7th from 5-7:30pm at Oak Creek Bible Church at 10444 Crouse-Willison Road Johnstown OH.
