JoAnn (Naginey) Wright (94), a lifetime Johnstown resident passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 29, 2024 at Johnstown Pointe surrounded by her family. She was born in Lake City, Michigan on January 23, 1930, to the late Samuel and Mary (Davis) Naginey.
JoAnn was a 1947 graduate of Johnstown High School. During her high school years she was a band member, homecoming queen, and a cheerleader. She continued her cheerleading as a lifelong Johnnie and Ohio State Buckeye fan.
On November 11, 1950, JoAnn married the love of her life, Lee Wright, in a ceremony held in the rectory of The Church of the Ascension, where she was a lifelong member.
As a homemaker, JoAnn’s passion was her family and the love of Johnstown, as evidenced by the fact that all six of her children graduated, and still reside in Johnstown.
Lee and JoAnn were proud parents, grandparents, great grandparents and great great-grandparents. Children: Janet (Randy) Kelly, Judy Shull, Jodi McKnight, Tim (Angie) Wright, Jill (Don) Harvey, and Jackie (Jerry) Cannon. Grandchildren: Courtney (Greg) Perry, Josh Kelly; Todd (Megan) McKnight, Taylor (Jesse) Byrer; Lindsey (Mike) BeVier, Laney (Clinton) Lainge; Stacey (Dan) Ciraky, Brandon Wright; Tia (Mike) Tennant, Chase (Adrienne) Harvey, Talia (Justin) Riggs; Chelsea, Riley (Kayla), Paige Cannon. Great grandchildren: Mason, Avery, Jonas Perry; Samantha (Hugh Myers), Kayla, Liam, Hannah Kelly; Dean, Lincoln, Roman McKnight; Emilee, Abbi, Sierra BeVier; Michael L.; Sofia, Evelyn, Logan Ciraky; Aramaik, Asilas Wright; Justin Riggs, Blake, McKinley Tennant; Wells, Grey Harvey; Hazel Cannon. Great great grandchildren: Hardin Myers and Evelynn BeVier.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lee Wright; her siblings, Ruth McGovern, Irene Nixon, Katie Hess, and John Naginey, and her son-in-law, Mike Shull.
Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 4,2023 at Church of the Ascension, 555 S. Main St., Johnstown, OH 43031. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the church with Father PJ Brandimarti officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.
