James Larry Hammond, 82, of Utica, OH, passed away on January 18, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 3, 1936 in Red Jacket, West Virginia. Larry was retired from AT&T and enjoyed numerous actives. He was active in the Ropes and Reins 4-H horse club. Larry was a motorsport enthusiast, racing cars, motorcycles, go carts, slot and rc cars as well. He played music throughout his life in several bands including “The Country Sounds”, “The Leftovers”, “Old Country” and “The Bunkhouse Band”. He enjoyed round and square dancing and was thrilled to teach anyone who wanted to learn.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Minnie Hammond, wife Mary Hammond, brothers and sisters Ernest, Turner, Charles, Delbert, Ramona, and Geneva.
He is survived by his brother and sisters: Lee, Wilma, and Laura, his wife of 17 years Sharon Hammond, and her children: Tammy (Alan), Loretta (Dennis), Jamie (Aden), Bradley, and Cheasequah (Eithan). Grandchildren: Kimberly, Colton, Jared, Alexis, Chase, Mercedes, Tom, Victoria, Ryder, James, and Makayla. Great Grandchildren: Gabriel, Kayelynn, Wyatt, and Gracie.
Larry is survived by his and Mary’s children: Marchelia (Dana), Teresa (Shirsh), Karen (Jay) and Malinda. Grandchildren: Taylor (Summer), Justin (Mindy), Jacob (Danielle), Casey (Neal), Cody (Jillian), Elliot, Emily (Lee), Adrian, Abigail (Camden). Great Grandchildren: Taylor, Kaleala, Wade, Cali, Emma, Ava, Kayden, Bailey, Noblelea, Amelia, Kennedy, and Nash.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2019 and 11a.m. -12 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2019 at CROUSE-KAUBER-FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, 225 N. Main St, Johnstown, OH. Funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Columbus, OH.
