A Mass of Christian burial for Elizabeth E. (Betty) Patton Disbennett, 98, will be held at the Church of the Ascension in Johnstown, Ohio on Friday, May 19th at 10:30 am. Viewing will be held at the Crouse-Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home in Johnstown on Thursday, May 18th from 5:00 pm – 7: 00 pm.
Elizabeth was born on December 10, 1924, to the late Ford and Mary (Mattingly) Patton at home on Beaver Rd. in Licking County. She attended her 12 years of school at the Alexandria school system and graduated in May 1942. Soon after she began working at Technical Rubber Company, now Tech International.
Betty married Marion Disbennett on June 23, 1944. She left Tech Rubber to raise her daughters, Ann Elizabeth and Ruth Ellen. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert and Charles, her husband Marion in 2014, Ann’s husband, Frank in 2014 and Ann in 2016.
She is survived by daughter Ruth (Thomas) Boder of Blacklick, five Grandchildren, Christopher (Kim) Board, Kevin (Melinda) Board, Carey (Stephen) Gill, Ryan (Amanda) Boder and Lora (Jason) Phillips. Nine Great Grandchildren, Jacob, Shaylan, Danica, Jessica, Wesley, Elijah, Elizabeth, Jack, Charlotte and a new great grandson due in August. One step great grandchild Layne West. Also, by a very caring niece, Betty Bolton and many other nieces and nephews.
She was avid in writing letters and poetry and sending greeting cards for every occasion to family, friends and pen pals to bring faith and comfort to all those around her including many in other countries. At one time she had 40 pen pals. She wrote to many young servicemen in the armed forces over the years, especially during the Vietnam War.
Betty was happiest in her kitchen when cooking and baking pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls and apple dumplings.
She and Marion celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family and friends in June 2014.
Luncheon will be served at the Church of the Ascension following the burial at Green Hill Cemetery.
