Dan Burrell Perkins

Dan B. “Perk” Perkins, 86, of Johnstown, Ohio, passed away on July 5, 2013. He was born at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, on February 27, 1927, to the late Col. Clell B. Perkins and Ilo Burrell Perkins. His early years were spent on various army posts in the U.S. and the Philippines. As a boy, he lived on Liberty Island when it was an army post in the 1930s. In 1936 be started his US army collection of regimental insignias, which grew to be one of the largest and oldest privately owned collections in the world. He graduated from North High School in Columbus, Ohio, and lived on the family farm in Johnstown, Ohio, since 1948. In 1962, he established Perk-Ad, an advertising and promotional business. His sense of humor will be remembered by business associates and family members alike. Dan was a lifelong Republican and a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Knights of Pythias. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Brig. General Tom J. Perkins and William Perkins, as well as two sisters, Carolyn Roberson and Dorothy Perkins, and his former wife Jo. He is survived by his children Craig Perkins, Nancy Marroquin and Kathleen Meyer; four grandchildren, Tori and Jessica Marroquin, Jacob and Collin Meyer. He also leaves many nieces and nephews who live in various parts of the U.S., and his beloved dogs and cat. He will be interred next to his former wife in the Hartford Cemetery in Croton, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am in the Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral home in Johnstown, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, Dan requested that donations be made in his name to the donor’s favorite animal rescue or humane society.
