Charles "Chuck" Booher, a visionary in the insurance industry and beloved family man, passed away on October 20, 2024, at the age of 79. Born December 2, 1944, Chuck grew up on the shores of Buckeye Lake, fostering a lifelong love for the outdoors and Ohio State football.
Chuck's path to success was marked by bold decisions from an early age. Despite receiving an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy, he chose to decline this prestigious opportunity to pursue a position at Battelle, a decision that set the stage for his future entrepreneurial endeavors.
His remarkable career in insurance spanned over five decades, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. Beginning as a life insurance salesman for John Hancock in 1967, he quickly established himself as a creative problem-solver and founded Charles Booher & Associates in 1970. His innovative approach to benefits, encapsulated in his trademark "Benefits by Design," led to the creation of several successful companies, including Health Administrators of America and Simplified Business Solutions.
Throughout his career, Chuck received numerous accolades, including being named the #1 salesperson in the U.S. for a major health insurer in 1992 and 1994. He was a Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table and achieved Top of the Table status, recognizing him as one of the top 500 insurance professionals worldwide. In 1990, he was a finalist for the Small Business Person of the Year award.
Beyond his professional achievements, Chuck was a proud Vietnam War veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. His commitment to service, which began with his military duty, extended throughout his life as he continued to provide consulting services to large corporations, cities, counties, and public entities well into his later years.
Chuck's zest for life was evident in his many passions. An avid Ohio State football fan, he could often be found cheering on the Buckeyes. He enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors, finding peace in landscaping and tending to his beloved roses. Travel was another joy, allowing him to explore the world with his family.
Family was at the heart of Chuck's life. He is survived by his loving wife, RuthAnn, and their five daughters: Melissa (Scott), Cindy (Scott), LeslieAnn (Greg), Stephanie, and Jenny (Max). Chuck took immense pride in his role as a father and grandfather, cherishing the time spent with his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Chuck Booher's legacy is one of innovation, dedication, and warmth. He will be remembered not only for his contributions to the insurance industry but also for his unwavering commitment to his family, his community, and the pursuits that brought him joy. His full life exemplified the balance between professional success and personal fulfillment, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
