William Preston Campbell, Jr., age 88, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Erwin, Tennessee, a son of the late William Preston Campbell, Sr. and Juanita Key Campbell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Bryan Jeffery Campbell.
William was a veteran of the United States Army. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Erwin, Tennessee, where he had served as a Deacon. He was a former FBI Agent and Geologist with the Smithsonian and the State of North Carolina. He had served as the former President of the Full Gospel Businessmen and had been part of the Geology Rock and Mineral Club. He loved the outdoors while enjoying fishing, hunting and canoeing.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie Vaughn Campbell; three sisters-in-laws, Mary Kelley, Joyce Pyle, and Jean Laissiter and husband Jerry; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 29, 2024 from 11:00AM until 12:00PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 540 Adams Street, Erwin, TN. Memorial Service will follow at 12:00PM with Pastor David Crutchfield officiating. Honorary pallbearers will men of his Sunday School Class including Jim Buchanan, David Burger, Jim Long, Alan Roger, Bill Gray, Ford Wilson, Richard Dorris, and Bob Pratt, and friends and relatives Lee Brown, Jerry Laissiter, Bill Gaines, Mickey Kepplinger, Don Cardwell, Todd Laissiter, Steven Hendrich, Ken McCurdy, and Porter Wilson.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff on the 2nd Floor at the Johnson City Medical Center for all the love and care that was shown.
